Although most everyone knows about menopause in women, the male counterpart, Andropause goes virtually unnoticed. That’s right there is a male menopause! Male menopause is one of our society’s best kept secrets. 

Who has not heard of someone going through a “midlife crisis”? That term is usually reserved for many men who, at about the age of 40, begin to appear distracted, mildly depressed, disinterested in their long term partners and often even somewhat dissatisfied with their career or business.

There is no coincidence that the term “midlife crisis” coincides with  significant physiological changes that take place in men at about that time of their lives.

In women this change of life is often more dramatic and comes on more quickly. In some women hot flashes (men get them too), sweats and heart flutters seem to happen overnight. Men's symptoms are likely to come on more gradually.

In this month’s newsletter I write about this common yet not very know well known condition in a man’s development.

Midlife Crisis

Midlife is a normal developmental stage that all men (if they are fortunate) get to experience. It is at this time, somewhere between 35-55 years of age, that both psychological as well as physiological (see preceding article) changes take place.
