It should come as no surprise to most anyone that gambling is a big industry. In fact in recent years the gaming industry has grown even larger than ever, creating huge profits for casino owners and their stock holders.

Lots of people enjoy the thrill of placing a bet. Wagering can be fun and exciting.  If you want a gambling rush you can bet a horse race, you can play cards online or you can buy lottery tickets.

Gambling or risking money on games of chance is one of those human endeavors that cut across most cultural and economic lines. It seems that almost everyone likes to do it, at least once in a while.

It is of course when gambling becomes all consuming and the person is unable to control the urge to gamble that he is considered addicted.

A gambler will frequently keep his addiction a secret for as long as possible, knowing that exposure will bring the pressure of the family to bear on his gambling.

Once family members find out about the addicted gambler they are often ashamed and sometimes frightened, worried that they will not be able to recover from the debt the gambler has gotten them in.

Gambling addiction often goes unnoticed by a gambler’s friends or family. Unlike other addictions such as alcohol, drugs or even food, friends and family may not see any changes taking place.
